Question.

150 students are studying English, Math or both. 62 per cent of the students are studying English and 68 percent are studying Math. How many students are studying both?

Solution :

  Method I

Total number of Students = 150

Number of Students studying English = 62% of 150

                                    = 150 x 68/100

                                    = 102

Number of Students studying Math's = 68% of 150

                                  = 150 x 62/100

                                  = 93

∴ Number of Students studying Both

= English + Math's - Total students

= (102 + 93) - 150

= 195 - 150

= 45

Ans. 45 students studying Both Math's & English.

  Method II

Total number of Students = 150

Percentage of Students studying English = 62%

Percentage of Students studying Math's = 68%

Percentage of Students studying Both

= ( English % ) + ( Math's % )  -  ( Total % )

= (62% + 68%) - 100%

= 130% - 100%

= 30%

Now,

Number of Students studying Both

= 30% of 150

= 150 x (30/100)

= 45

Ans. 45 students studying Both Math's & English.
